
Language levels
(correlated to Common European Framework levels)
Level 0- 0.5 (CEFR A1)
Can use a few basic words and some simple phrases.
Pronunciation and grammar at a very basic, low level.
Can understand simple language if the speaker speaks slowly.
Can write simple routine words and phrases: dates, nationality, addresses and other personal information.
Can make and understand telephone calls about simple “tourist” topics, e.g. giving personal information.
Level 1.00 (CEFR A2)
Can ask and answer customary personal questions and make simple polite conversation.
Can speak to “survive” at a tourist level in restaurants, hotels, and shops.
Pronunciation and grammar contain many mistakes but “the message” can be understood.
Can write simple, short notes and e-mails.
Can make elementary telephone calls for information and work-related matters.
Level 2.00 (CEFR B1)
Can speak with relative ease about personal situations and circumstances, work and interests.
Can make small talk with native speakers, but can’t converse about more complicated subjects, or more detailed work related material such as negotiations, etc.
Can write clear, short messages, letters and e-mails giving advice and information.
Can contribute during formal and informal meetings.
Can make telephone calls for a variety of purposes and ask for repetition or clarification.
Level 3.00 (CEFR B2)
Can speak fluently and spontaneously about personal matters, society, politics, culture and in-depth work-related subjects, but the finer nuances in vocabulary and grammar still need to be developed.
Pronunciation is good and easily understood, but it still sounds “Danish”.
Can write e-mails, letters, and reports that are well-structured though still not 100% correct.
Can communicate effectively on the telephone when speaking to native speakers.
Level 4.00 (CRFR C1)
Can use the language fluently, precisely and effectively.
Almost never lacks the correct vocabulary when speaking or reading.
In a business or work situation, one is regarded as competent in a foreign language, which is a plus in the professional profile.
Can manage most business correspondence in a clear, structured and coherent manner, though there can be a few minor errors.
Can make telephone calls in a confident manner and use the appropriate telephone phrases.
Level 5.0 (CEFR C2)
Can speak fluently and correctly at the same level as a well-educated, native speaker.
Both the personal and the professional profile come across clearly in the foreign language.
Can understand the finer nuances of the language such as – irony, humor, puns and proverbs.
Can express oneself, in the written language, at the same level as a well-educated native.
Can write effective, concise, business correspondence.
Can make telephone calls and participate in telephone conferencing, easily and confidently.
